Zahf Paroo is an internationally featured performer. He has been working
professionally since 1995 in film, television, theatre and animation.
Most recently, Zahf was one of the stars of the international television
series "Defying Gravity", playing Ajay Sharma opposite Golden Globe
nominee Ron Livingston. The series was globally distributed and featured
on ABC, the BBC2, CTV, Space and ProSieben. It ran for 13 episodes in
2009.
While Vancouver is presently his home base, Zahf Paroo's
career spans across the globe.
A trained theatre veteran, Zahf
has spent much of his career going back and forth from stage to screen.
In 2004, he opened the original Broadway
production of the musical "Bombay Dreams" (produced by Golden Globe,
Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner Sir
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Golden Globe, Grammy and Academy Award winner A.R.
Rahman). The performance track included acting, singing, dancing,
playing multiple characters, and understudying both male leads in the
production. "Bombay Dreams" ran for a year at the Broadway Theatre
in New York with a run of 314 performances. The show was nominated for 2
Tony Awards and
4 Drama Desk Awards.
Zahf
starred in the Canadian reality television show "Sketch Troop" as well
as the follow-up documentary "The Road to Funny". The comedic work in
these shows led to multiple performances at the prestigious "Just for
Laughs" Festival in Montreal, Canada. These paths opened up doors the
Fox film "Say it isn't So" where director J.B. Rogers and producers
Bobby & Peter Farrely created a role for Zahf. They gave him
collaborative freedom to create dialogue and this was a vehicle for his
comedic potential to burst through. Zahf then surprised audiences
(spoiler alert!) when he was unmasked as one of the two arch-villains
along with Alicia Silverstone in Warner Bros. Scooby Doo 2. Since these
roles, he has gone on to write and produce much of his own live comedic
sketch work, which has recently spun into the creation of viral, online
digital comedic shorts.
Previous to "Defying Gravity" in the
realm of television, audiences may recognize Zahf from playing the role
of antagonist Vijay Patek in the ABC television series "3 Moons Over Milford" or as "Tyler" in the Leo and Gemini Award winning
Canadian series "Edgemont".
